3 Ways to Safely Remove Your Child’s Loose Tooth

a child with a missing tooth

Your child comes running to you explaining they have a loose tooth in McKinney. If they’re like most kids, they’re probably pretty excited, especially if you’ve discussed the Tooth Fairy and what she leaves in exchange for baby teeth. But how can you help hurry the process safely and effectively? You obviously don’t want the tooth to come out too early, but if it’s already fairly loose, here are three methods you can use to fast-track the location of your child’s primary tooth from their mouth to under their pillow.

Let the Dog Join in On the Fun

If you have a dog in your home, you can make them a part of the process. All you and your child need to do is to use a piece of string and tie one end around the loose tooth and the other end around the dog’s collar. Whether you or your child want to throw the treat is up to you, but the moment you release it from your hands, be ready to watch your dog take off. In just seconds, the other end of the string will pop the tooth out, leaving your child toothless and ready for a treat from the Tooth Fairy.

Go Out and Throw the Ball

Maybe your child enjoys playing sports or even just throwing a ball around outside. If you want to leave the dog out of this scenario, you can easily use a baseball to achieve the same results. Simply tie the end of the string to your child’s tooth and the other end around the ball. You’ll want to make sure it’s tight and doesn’t slip off. Holding it in your hand, toss it up in the air (not too high) and hit it with just enough power to send the tooth flying.

You can then let your little one run and retrieve the tooth. Just make sure your dog isn’t around to grab it first!

Get Ready to Shut the Door

This one is a tried-and-true solution that parents and kids have been using for years. Don’t be surprised if your child’s pediatric dentist in McKinney tells their own story about using this method!

To help your child say goodbye to that loose tooth, all you need to do is tie the end of the string to their wobbly pearly white while attaching the other end of the string to a doorknob. While you may not allow loud shutting doors in your house, feel free to let this one slide as the entire family gets excited to watch your little one’s tooth pop out.

If there’s a little bit of bleeding afterward, don’t worry, as this is completely normal. Besides, your child will be too busy and excited to think much about else other than what will be left behind by the Tooth Fairy.

Using these safe and effective techniques to remove a loose tooth can help your little one enjoy the process of preparing to say goodbye to their baby teeth and hello to the permanent ones coming in.
